Updated: Apr 23

Update- 23 April: The deadline for the consultation has been extended by a week to 5th May

The Muirburn Code provides essential guidance on how to carry out muirburn safely and responsibly. The consultation draft is currently available to view on NatureScot's website and is open for feedback.

Developed in collaboration with the Muirburn Code Working Group, the draft reflects the latest thinking on land management, fire safety, and environmental protection. NatureScot’s licensing team is inviting feedback from all interested parties until 5th May 2025.

The Muirburn Code applies to all land managers and individuals who are involved in making muirburn on land they own or manage. It applies to all land over which muirburn is used as a management tool. It may also be of interest to those who wish to understand more about muirburn.

Whether you’re involved in conservation, agriculture, gamekeeping, or wildfire prevention, or simply have an interest in how Scotland’s land is managed, your input is valuable.
