We are delighted to share some news from the Scottish Land and Estates HELPING IT HAPPEN AWARDS 2025 which were held at the Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa in Edinburgh last week. Our Vice-Chair, Michael Bruce who is also Director of Firebreak Services Ltd, was recognised as a Finalist in the Conservation category.
Founded by Michael in 2003, Firebreak Services has become a cornerstone of wildfire risk management in Scotland. Driven by the growing threat of wildfires and the lack of reliable information, Michael has dedicated his career to developing and delivering the Wildfire Danger Assessment since 2014 on behalf of the Scottish Wildfire Forum — it is now a vital tool now relied upon by agencies including the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, NatureScot, Forestry and Land Scotland, and Scotland’s National Parks as well as many landowners, foresters, farmers, gamekeepers and countryside rangers.
His work combines scientific expertise with local knowledge, engages communities, and directly supports emergency services—helping Scotland stay prepared, informed, and safe. Beyond the data, his commitment reflects a deep passion for public safety and environmental stewardship.
We are sure you will join us in congratulating Michael on this well-deserved recognition, and for the lasting impact his efforts continue to make across Scotland.
