Sign up for the UK Wildfire Conference site visit: Local Resilience
Hosted by the South Grampian Wildfire Group in Partnership with James Hutton Institute’s Glensaugh Farm, the site visit is an opportunity for those attending the UK Wildfire Conference to see, first hand, the systems and equipment in place to tackle wildfire in the local environment. This will include a short walk to see outdoor demonstrations of ATV-mounted fire fogging units and the use of helicopters in firefighting.
Held on Monday, 11 November, the visit (sponsored by Scottish Forestry) precedes the main UK Wildfire Conference in Aberdeen on 12 and 13 November and the ticket price of £30 includes coach transport from/to Aberdeen, lunch and refreshments. Spaces are limited, so early booking is advised. Tickets for the site visit can only be purchased by conference attendees.

We are committed to reducing the number and severity of wildfires in Scotland through collaborative working across all relevant sectors.
The gradual increase in size of fuel loads in many parts of Scotland is coinciding with the connectivity of fuel sources. Combined with the impacts of climate change, means we are anticipating an increase in the size of fires as well as an increase in fire intensity: more severe fires with greater impacts. The risks of landscape-scale high intensity, high severity fires are growing year by year.
The purpose of the SWF is to create a focus for joint working between all interested stakeholders within Scotland to develop wildfire initiatives that will reduce:
-
the risks to firefighters and members of the public
-
the amount of damage to vegetation and biodiversity
-
the negative impact on property, assets and ecosystem services
