PRESS RELEASE

20th Feb 2026 – for immediate release

SCOTTISH GOVERNMENT WILDFIRE ACTION WELCOMED BY FORUM

Today’s commitment by the Scottish Government - as laid out in its Strategic Action Plan on Wildfires - and the recently published Scottish Fire and Rescue Service formal debrief report on last summer’s devastating wildfires, has been welcomed by the Scottish Wildfire Forum

The Forum brings together public agencies, environmental NGO’s, and private landowners and together they work to address what is an increasing threat to rural Scotland.

The Plan sets out a coordinated approach to preventing, preparing for and responding to wildfires in Scotland, which members of the Forum will now review, and continue to engage with Scottish Ministers on the issue.

In addition, the publication of the in-depth report into the 2025 Dava and Carrbridge wildfires augments and demonstrates the ongoing commitment of SFRS to address the issue of wildfire.

The Forum welcomes the commitment of the Scottish Government, and pledges to do whatever it can collectively to deliver the actions necessary to prevent a recurrence, mitigate the impact, and promote recovery from wildfire. Members are particularly pleased to see the Scottish Government supporting an integrated approach to addressing the issue of wildfire, and recognising the contribution made by land managers - including private owners and eNGO’s.

Members are engaged in on-the-ground actions, working with researchers, delivering training, and developing management systems. The wide range of expertise brought together by the Forum is well placed to support that integrated approach.
